Free People

The origins of Free People go back to the '70s and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founder Dick Hayne wanted to open a store that nurtured the youth of Philadelphia who were looking for freedom in the clothing they wore, he called the store Free People. Free People would eventually grow into more stores and eventually became Urban Outfitters.

As Dick and his wife Meg continued to grow with their business they eventually opened other stores including Bulldog, Ecote, Cooperative, and Anthropologie. They always had Free People in the back of their minds, and in 1984 they decided to reopen the Free People store. Fast forward to 2001. That was the year that they realized what Free People's true identity was, evolving into a more mature and contemporary brand. They allow for women in their 20s to have the freedom to chose what to wear, for any occasion. That is Free People
